He obvious didn’t buy into the notion of attracting and maintaining top talent through the extras. As a sales manager, I would have pushed a little harder for something small like a gift card to take my wife out!
So what does this all mean? We need to ensure that we are doing everything we can- within reason- to incentivize our staff. Earning a paycheck is great, but being able to get that little something extra gives a sense of pride. Especially today with all of the incentives places like Oracle, Goodle and LinkedIn offer employees. Maybe it is public recognition, a lunch for the entire group or even a system to earn large prizes down the line.
